Mahatma Gandhi is known as the 'Father of Nation'. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar which is situated in Gujarat. He is known for his lead role in the struggle for freedom of our country. His main tool in  fighting for justice was satya (truth) and ahimsa (non violence). 

Mahatma Gandhi always believe in the power of truth. He considered everyone as equal. He did a lot of work for the empowerment of weaker section of the society. 

He launched many movements against British such as Non cooperation movement, Civil disobedience movement, Quit India movement, etc. 

 His ideas inspired many people in the world. His birthday on 2nd October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti in India. This. Day is also celebrated as 'The International Day of non violence'. People also lovingly called him 'Bapu'.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2nd, 1869 in Porbandar which is situated in Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He is well known for his invaluable contribution in the struggle for independent India. His ideals were truth (satya) and non violence (ahimsa) which became his main tool in the fight for justice and freedom. His philosophy inspired many people across the world and it helped them to raise their voice against any kind of discrimination - be it on the basis of caste, colour, religion, etc. 

Gandhiji launched so many movements against the British for India's independence such as Non Cooperation movement, Civil disobedience movement, Quit India movement, etc. which helped in weakening the British power. Due to his protest against British, he got arrested many times and sent to prison. But his undying effort for freedom and dedication in the service of others lead him to the independent nation. 

His idea of fighting for justice in a non violent manner inspired many leaders worldwide such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. The great scientist Albert Einstein was also influenced by his ideas. Einstein said about him that Mahatma Gandhi was such a great human being that coming generations may not believe that such a man ever existed. He also said that we should strive to do things in his spirit by not using violence in fighting for our cause but by non participation in anything you believe as evil. The United Nation honoured him by celebrating his birthday as "The International Day of Non Violence". 

He considered everyone as equal and fought for the removal of untouchability. He did a lot of work for the empowerment of weaker section of the society and women. He also worked hard for sanitation in the villages. People also lovingly called him 'Bapu'. His birthday 2nd October is celebrated as 'Gandhi Jayanti' in India.
